Birb vs Masto
There's quite a lot of noise coming from the social media area these days. Honestly, I keep seeing "takes" about how inconvenient Masto is, and I don't really resonate with that at all. The slower pace and the niche-oriented communities mean that I can interact with the people who matter to me, without being inundated with voices that ricochet off their accounts unbidden into my timeline. I don't really care to hear or see what some stranger is trying to amplify, I want to interact with the people who matter to me, directly (If Masto doesn't have a per-account boost disable, I may just pull the lever to disable boosts entirely).
It strikes me that the primary reason I sort of hate Twitter is exactly the experience that people DESIRE from Twitter, and lament is missing from Masto. Strange, that.
Though there is also the new take of "Never touch Masto because it's run/maintained by extremely problematic and untustworthy people". People I trust on Twitter basically retweeting stuff saying that Masto isn't to be trusted makes me uncomfortable as hell.
I like it here enough that I don't want to consider that it's a bad idea to be here. But I suppose that's something I need to acknowledge and recognize, rather than ignore.
I don't know. I just want to do silly things and enjoy myself on the internet with fellow weird people. Why's it gotta be so fuckin' complicated?
(Spoiler: It will never not be)
Birb vs Masto
@Phorm (the other object is impersonation, which happens a lot on Twitter anyway..)
