I've been trying to avoid bringing it up, but it feels like things are getting quite desperate. Mostly because the authoritarians are manufacturing and leveraging crises left and right.
Now there's even open calls to invoke emergency powers and "Sweep aside the recalcitrant left"
This really isn't anything other than the final fig leaf falling away. And I find it terrifying.
MORE TERRIFYING though, is the obstinate refusal to acknowledge this that most seem to be experiencing. If you even try to say that this is dangerous, that this is leading down a violent and evil path, it's considered being Chicken Little.
I hope my heart gives out soon. I honestly don't much relish where we're headed. I'd rather pass on peacefully in my sleep than watch this evil slowly win, despite ineptitude, because no one wants to take it seriously.

@Phorm Eh yes and no. Dobbs has been a crazy racist asshole for a LONG TIME. This actually isn't much of a step up / down for him. Like, spreading fake news about immigrants spreading disease for decades, cf https://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/30/business/30leonhardt.html
That's an escalation, yes, but probably not one that's going to do much good to him.

Very true, though what worries me is how much the goddamned asshole in the oval office seems to take his queues from programming like this. Even if Dobbs is spouting off, it plants an uncomfortable seed.
Further, even if it isn't much of a fruitful escalation, it's a bit of a stark reminder. I mean, we all KNEW they wanted to have a one-party autocratic regressive authoritarian xenophobic dictatorship - But here, Dobbs is saying the quiet part loud, and I doubt his colleagues are going to do much but smile, nod, and say "Yeah, he's got a point". The fact that he's COMFORTABLE enough saying this is chilling enough as it is.
Fuckers ain't even subtle anymore.
