I saw a lone crow foraging on the lawn outside as I opened the office window, so I made the "tok tok tok" noise I do when putting out peanuts. the crow *immediately* abandoned its foraging and flew directly to the branches where they wait when I'm putting peanuts on the railing. it's not one of the regulars, either--it didn't make a "food here" call, and instead of flying up and landing on the railing as I was going back inside it grabbed a peanut in a fly-by. the newbies tend to be more skittish like that, my family generally just plops down and struts around on the porch, taking their time and seeing how many peanuts they can pick up at once (max I've seen is an impressive four--one in the crop, one way back in the mouth, and two in the beak!)

a couple of days ago I opened the blinds on my bedroom window and saw like three crows sitting in the branches outside. I waved at them, and they immediately set up a ruckus and went to the "waiting for peanuts" lobby. so it's up in the air who's training whom, here. ;) 🖤 :whyistherenocrowemoji:
