why is it called a hot take anyway

@Felthry it's a take on a hot issue--just trying to be the first one to publish some junk and get your 15 minutes of outrage retweets and as a result, writing something of no substance.

(although it predates twitter some):
merriam-webster.com/words-at-p (quote from 1993 at the bottom). The meaning has shifted a little from that quote I think, but now it's just writing effectively tabloid journalism to try and capture the 'first thing people saw' nature of click bait and algorithm propagation. Hot takes are not good things.
