today we learned: the "do re mi" syllables are not, in fact, a weird solely-didactic thing, but actually the names of the notes in basically every romance language

and that this is incredibly confusing to people who learn music in a romance language because in those settings "do" always means "C", but in english it just means the tonic of whatever key you're in
