question about a new meme

what does "vibe check" mean

secondhand answer, weird social ritual re: question about a new meme

@Felthry someone else I follow said it was a thing that coordinators of social events sometimes do to check whether people are having a good time

I'm guessing it became a joke by people doing so in completely self-defeating ways - e.g. "everyone give a thumbs-up if you're cheerful and a thumbs-down if you're not!", as if publicly declaring that you're not having a good time isn't a recipe for having an even worse time as people try to confront you over why
