thoughts on linguistics, extinct languages 

Language learning is hard but I kind of feel like we ought to try to learn the languages of our ancestors, to preserve languages that would otherwise die out

there are languages with less than ten fluent speakers out there and they have their own unique features, and probably their own oral tradition that ought to be preserved

...I wish we could say we were trying to do just that but. we only know english and our ancestors spoke languages like German and Dutch that are in no danger of extinction, and trying to learn a dying language from a culture you've never been anywhere close to being a part of would be... I don't know, it feels like it'd be wrong

still. i'd like to learn another language sometime. Not for its usefulness, but because some languages deserve more than they're getting.
