does any other language do the weird thing english does where the meat and the animal it comes from have two different words? like pork/pig, beef/cow, venison/deer, mutton/sheep

....as a follow-on to this, is there any language that has separate names for fruits-on-the-plant and fruits-used-as-food

@Felthry i think this is because the upper class and the servants spoke different languages iirc so you'd have to find other instances of that

(i don't know of any of the top of my head)

@monorail any other creole would have the potential for that, as well as anything that's borrowed from english (which is a Lot)

This isn't quite the same thing, but in Japanese, 米 (kome) means "uncooked rice" and 御飯 (gohan) means "cooked rice".
