question: what exactly differentiates some emulators from others
why do people hate zsnes, what makes snes9x so much better? same for vba and i forget the name of the one that people don't think is bad
I can't say we know the specific cases you're mentioning but I'm betting it basically comes down to compatibility vs performance.
There's quite a few different *ways* of emulating different consoles, from emulating the actions of the hardware itself to interpreting the code at a higher level and translating it to something compatible with your computer. The latter has the best performance usually but if any devs did any weird hardware specific hacks, those have to be accounted for.
@Felthry honestly zsnes is always going to be my favorite...
but it has compatibility issues with a handful of games, and also a lot of the games it technically does work for it are using game-specific hacks that apply on loading those specific games to work
(and for whatever reason, a lot of those hacks were removed in the final release of zsnes, as well as netplay, idk why)
but honestly 99% of the time zsnes is fine and people that get up in arms about it really, really need to chill
