politics thought, future historians
i wonder, in the distant future, will people talk about the USian empire in positive terms or negative ones?
i'm reasonably certain there will be talk of a USian empire. But whether they're referring to how the US is today, which is basically an empire in all but name, or some kind of awful future expansionist USA, remains to be seen
i really hope far future people don't talk about the current or future US as a great empire, but rather as--at the very least--a dark stain on USian history
re: politics thought, future historians
@yaodema i hope so
i just dread the possibility that future historians might write about the US in the same way they write about the Roman empire, talking about how great it was and glossing over anything vaguely negative

@Felthry I think we'll be regarded as having made horrible mistakes in the founding of our country, having attempted a democracy and rapidly devolved into an oligarchy disguised as a republic, taking around 250 years to realize the depths of our mistake in anything close to a majority of citizens.
