@Felthry big bard energy
@Oneironott the character's actually a pretty consistent damage-dealer, not a whole lot of support stuff in his arsenal, iwrc
@Felthry Wasn't there a whole series of weaponised instruments in... Baten Kaitos, I think it was?
@Terrana That's what this is from!
@Felthry Did I ever tell you about the Music Boat in The Clangers?
@Terrana I don't think so!
@Felthry The Clangers was a stop-motion animated series from the 1960s. Music had special properties in its universe.
One day, they find musical notes growing on trees. Little black quavers with long tails. After they get the Soup Dragon to stop eating said notes, they start fooling around with them.
One thing they try is painting staff lines on a cylindrical rock and sticking the notes to it. When the rock is rolled, it makes a tinkly little melody, and promptly launches itself off the ground.
Later on, in a different episode, we find they've mounted that same rock on a mast-like pole on a small boat. They spin it to make the boat fly.
It seems like every JRPG has to have the one character who uses something completely absurd as a weapon
in Baten Kaitos it's Lyude's brass instruments, in Wild ARMS 2 it's Lilika's umbrellas, in Tales of Symphonia it's both Genis's kendama and Sheena's cards, in Final Fantasy IX it's Quina's forks, I can probably think of more too if I bothered to
Honorable mention to Xenoblade Chronicles, where your healer shoots people with her magic healing sniper rifle
