why do pinball machines always have such high score numbers?

@Felthry Well, you know, as much fun as a 10,000-point jackpot is, 100,000 points is more fun, and a million more fun that *that*.

Probably also linked to seven-segment LEDs and then dot-matrix screens making it as easy to have a ten-digit score as to have a five-digit score.

A lot of 50s games would have, like, '1 million' or '200,000' or so painted on the backglass and a light behind that if that was your score.
