not even softmodded, just put the burned dvd in and it runs

@IceWolf this is like the holy grail of console modding, to figure out how to get an unmodified system to boot burned discs

it was previously achieved on the dreamcast, but that wasn't very exciting as there's not a whole lot of interest in the dreamcast and the larger games that people would want to burn require rare high-density CD-Rs

the PS2 is the most popular system of all time though. it sold more units than any other console ever made, and it reads standard DVD-Rs just fine

@IceWolf next trip to the store we might be buying some dvd-Rs to try this out

(it doesn't work well with dvd-rws, which is all the writable optical media we have)
