ancient board games are neat

mancala, hnefatafl, the royal game of ur, nine men's morris

it's kind of amazing we actually know something of the rules for some of them, too
-F

go, which is still played today, is also over three thousand years old

@Felthry We know Mancala and used to play it as a kid, and we recently learned the rules of Nine Men's Morris. We've heard of Ur, but that's about it.

If you're interested, Clubhouse Games for the switch has a bunch of old games, and teaches you how to play! (Our favorite is probably Hanafuda/KoiKoi)

@The1AndMany we have that already, learned to play koikoi and riichi from it--but i'm thinking about older games than that. mancala is the oldest known game period, the royal game of ur is from some 4000~5000 years ago, nine men's morris is ancient roman, but hanafuda only dates back to like the 15th? century

@Felthry Interesting!

Incidentally, are you any good at Riichi? We're trying to learn, but it's a little tricky...

@The1AndMany we're not terrible, want some tips? or to play against us, can do that too!
-F

@Felthry Just tips for now. We've got a busy next few days, but we'd love to play with you at some point!
