what is a "multi-level marketing company"?
-F

@Felthry

A pyramid scheme that somehow hasn't become illegal yet. It's the sort of thing where you're supposed to become a sales rep selling ostensibly useful stuff (which more often than not is actually crap), but they way you're encouraged to make more (i.e. real) money is to get your friends and family to also sign up to sell things under the same scheme.

This is worth reading: cockeyed.com/workfromhome/work

@Felthry A company sells you (probably junky) products. They do so under the pretext of you "starting a business" and reselling those products to everyone you know. Even moreso, they expect you to recruit other sellers, then sell to them, kinda ad infinitum.

Like a pyramid scheme, but with tangible goods.

It's a highly predatory model.

@Felthry Podcast recommendation, The Dream. It's a miniseries about MLMs and how their existence is built on american myths about capitalism.
