@starkatt i can see where you're coming from, but i disagree
they have their place, they're just not the best option for most things

@starkatt to elaborate on that, where BJTs really shine is their ease of use
there's no fragile oxide to break with a static spark, they're remarkably linear without any offset (it's just Ib that controls Ic to a first approximation, unlike MOSFETs where it's Vgs - Vth), you can drive them as switches with very low voltage
of course for anything where switching characteristics actually matter they're awful, but as amplifiers and raw "my μC can't output enough current"-fixers, they're handy

we're actually learning to appreciate igbts lately
they're good for switching huge currents with tiny gate charge
but they're also ridiculously difficult to simulate for some reason, the SPICE models all have convergence issues
