i think i've discovered why SiC pn junction diodes are so rare

on the other paw this is a single diode rated for a blocking voltage of 15 kV, and only 20 μA of reverse leakage at 8 kV

for those who don't know, a forward voltage of more than about 1 volt at 1 amp is quite high (in a bad way, you want it to be low!), but also reverse blocking voltages higher than about 1.2 kV are rarely seen, and for blocking voltage higher is better
