where did the trend of putting gelatinous spheres in drinks come from anyway, do people actually say "why yes i would like my drink to contain some tapioca blobules. cassava globs. tuber orbs."

They were Taiwanese originally and then spread from there. And I personally like them as an odd but not unpleasant texture.
