the end that's on the device it plugs into is called a C14, but i don't know why the plug and receptacle can't share a number

@Felthry yeah, those are the three we know - we only ever heard them called appliance plugs so we didn't know their standard name!

@Felthry I know them colloquially as "power cables that breed in the dark" or "wait how do I have a ton more of these than devices I've ever bought?"
you are probably also familiar with the C7 connector (aka "figure 8 connector") and its grounded variant C5 (we've heard that one called a "mickey mouse plug" for its shape)
