we went to the grocery store yesterday and they had a display all about parmigiano-reggiano (which waterfox has helpfully decided should be spelling-corrected to paranoia-reggiano) and in addition to a bunch of reasonably sized wedges of the cheese (which were still really expensive due to being imported cheese) they had five half-wheels of it, about 20 pounds each

i can't help but wonder if anyone has ever purchased one of those from them

@Felthry Also: I use grana padano personally, it's still a little expensive but it's heckin good and I can't really tell the difference with parmigiano

@socks i don't think we've ever had grana padano! we tend to go for the generic "parmesan" that you can get here (it's nothing like actual parmigiano-reggiano but it's still good as a topping on pizzas and stuff), sometimes with some asiago too, just because it's affordable and generally easier to get here

@socks i'm pretty sure that calling it parmesan wouldn't be legal in europe, but the US doesn't have europe's whole protected designation of origin thing

Follow

@socks (i believe "parmigiano-reggiano" does legally have to come from parma though, or at least from italy)
