I don't know why it feels so weird to me, but it feels really weird to me that French and afawk only French puts spaces before question marks (and exclamation marks?)

we aren't aware of any other language that does this

where did it originate, and why?

come to think of it, i also kinda wonder where the ¿...? and ¡...! in Spanish originated.... Huh. Punctuation is weird

also aren't there some languages that use ,,..." instead of english's "..."? and french, again being unusual, uses «...» for the same purpose

and Japanese uses 「...」, but that's kinda just an entirely different writing system with different rules so it feels more expected that punctuation would be different?
