we've never had horchata before nor had we even heard of it but it's really good

Also, harder to find but worth seeking out, especially in the winter, is champurrado. It's like hot chocolate thickened slightly with cornmeal, and goes really well with sweet tamales as a cozy warm dessert.

@socks from what we saw, the north american (primarily mexican) version of it is really different than the spanish version! i kinda want to try the spanish version sometime (not that we've even had the proper mexican version yet...)

Horchata is great stuff. It's a mixture of milk, crushed-up rice, cinnamon, sugar, and other trace ingredients. If you've got a more authentic Mexican restaurant near you, give it a try there too.
