you have to admire the audacity of the morrowind writers to decide that *all* of the possible endings of daggerfall (which are mutually exclusive) were canon

time itself is weak and malleable, history isn't nearly as set in stone as you'd expect
people study this phenomenon, with one notable occurance being referred to as the "dragon break", if you ever see that term around. it's well documented that some years just didn't happen, or happened differently for different people
this begins to make more sense when you consider the nature of the world as being part of the Dream of the Godhead, and the ability for characters of the dream to break free of its "script" by achieving CHIM. the entire cosmology of the elder scrolls has a layer of artificiality built into it
