the Tales series of jrpgs has always had magic work on a timed system, where your spellcasters have to spend x amount of time standing stationary casting the spell before it actually does anything

basically as soon as full voice lines were possible, each spell got its own incantation that was spoken during this casting time

but since the casting time isn't constant (various stats and skills and equipment could speed it up), sometimes the incantation would get cut off.

starting with Tales of Vesperia, if you could get the spell casting time too short for the full incantation to play, the character instead just says "blah blah blah" in place of the incantation and it's really kind of hilarious

in Tales of Arise, the newest one, the spellcaster character doesn't even say the name of the spell like they usually do in this situation, just saying "blah blah blah, magic!" in this really... dismissive/bored/just-get-it-over-with tone

which is especially silly considering that at one point in the game they talk about how completely essential the incantation is for making the spell work right
