Katt's crafty corner: cutting fluid

Hey if you're doing pretty much any drilling or sawing operation through metal:

Put at least a drop of fluid on the tool. Preferably some kind of light oil, but tbh it doesn't really matter too much for personal work. Something as simple as soapy water is okay.

Heat will go into the fluid rather than into the tool/part. It's usually okay if it smokes a bit. This both lubricates and greatly reduces work hardening, and generally makes life way easier.

@starkatt Fun(?) fact: while working on our graduate project in school, we did not know this when we had to drill two holes in a ¼" (or maybe 5 mm? reasonably thick anyway) thick bar of copper.

It *did* ultimately work because the pure (ETP) copper we were using is really soft, but we very nearly slashed our hand open when the copper got stuck in the drill and pulled free of our improvised clamping system

also i think we ruined the drill bit
