weird findings in youtube recommendations: a video titled "15 exotic fruits you won't believe exist" where the thumbnail is... someone holding a dragonfruit
i'm pretty sure i believe dragonfruit exists, internet person. we can get them at our local grocery store

That sounds like it could be a pomelo. They look like overinflated grapefruit and the rinds tend to be green-yellow, although they're also comically thick, so if the rind were removed it might just look like a normal-size citrus.
@dodec Yeah, that's why I didn't think it was a pomelo. Best guess is just a particularly large grapefruit, or possibly photoshopped.

possibly unsettling food pic
@Felthry kinda tangential, but on the topic of commonly-available exotic-looking foods: the first time I saw Romanesco broccoli in a grocery store I kinda stopped and stared for a bit
re: possibly unsettling food pic
@starseeker Romanesco broccoli is really pretty! as we understand it one of the main reasons it's used in stuff is for that distinctive look

re: possibly unsettling food pic
@Felthry yeah it's fascinating to look at
don't really care for eating broccoli/cauliflower/etc myself though >.>
re: possibly unsettling food pic
@starseeker that's fair! it's one of our favorite vegetables personally
also fun broccoli fact: broccoli is actually the same exact species as
- cauliflower (you probably guessed this one)
- cabbage
- lettuce
- kale
- brussels sprouts
- collard greens
- kohlrabi (aka german turnip)

re: possibly unsettling food pic
@Felthry yeah, all derivatives of wild mustard iirc, which is pretty neat
re: possibly unsettling food pic
@starseeker also apparently jersey cabbage, which looks ridiculous https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/16/Tree_cabbage.jpg

re: possibly unsettling food pic
@Felthry *zooooop*
to be fair the thumbnail also contains a picture of something we didn't recognise at first glance, so that could be what they're trying to draw people in with
but looking at it closer it appears to be slices of some kind of large citrus fruit with the rind removed, possibly a particularly large grapefruit
