@Felthry idk if it qualifies as a quirk, and I don't know precisely which word mario party uses, but there's a couple of words that mean "lose/fail/miss" and some that mean "win/succeed/hit"
including "miss" as a foreign loan word (mi-ssu), taking on the same senses lose/fail
(also "near miss" as "ni-a mi-ssu")
I think I've seen other japanese games use "miss" that way? not necessarily in translation, either, but like literally MISS in latin letters as the "you died" message.
