Why would a two-pin component be put into a dang SOT-23 package. Unless there's something I'm missing, that's one entire pin more than what I need!

It's definitely not for thermal reasons in this case.

@starkatt Diodes are really common in SOT-23, always assumed it was to share a pinout with other things. If you design a board so that one option has a diode there, and one option has a transistor there, you can save a little space. Or you can just share footprints with the dual diode version of the same part, or something?

It could just be that the die is too big for SOD-123 but too small for SMA, and SOT-23 is a good middle ground there?
