how to make a zelda game with zelda as a protagonist
(because we were reminded of this)
step 1: link gets captured by the villain, probably in a crystal or something
step 2: zelda gets a weapon and tries to save the day
step 3: the same kind of puzzles, dungeons, game mechanics, and so on that you'd use in any other zelda game
step 4: zelda beats the villain, frees link, and saves the day
there are good and bad ways to write the plot stuff, but the game design stuff doesn't change at all

Zelda backstory, skyward sword spoilers re: why we care re: how to make a zelda game with zelda as a protagonist
@packbat the lore relevant here is that there are three (plus a few) immortal souls in the zelda universe, who are fated to keep reincarnating--Zelda because she has the blood of the goddess Hylia, Link because he has the spirit of the hero (which was blessed by the goddess Hylia), and ganondorf because he's an incarnation of the demon king Demise's curse that he placed on Link and Zelda at the end of Skyward Sword
ganondorf isn't the only incarnation of Demise's curse, though; there's also been Vaati, Bellum, and Malladus who were probably also incarnations of the curse

@Felthry I feel like that would /have/ to be a side game (barring commercial success that leads to it being the game the series builds sequels to), but that could be really interesting!
We honestly don't know a lot of Zelda lore? We're mostly thinking about it as a brand being managed by a company that would like to /not/ undermine it.
