it's weird that people treat autism as a horrible debilitating disease that makes them impossible to communicate with when it's really usually about as difficult as talking to someone who speaks your language as a second language

it's like especially weird because if your kid's born without a leg or something it's like "yeah i'll feel bad about it for a day or two, then whatever that's life, my kid's just got a unique thing about them" and your weird mom obsession is Cool Prosthetic Legs

but with autism it's like "ah i guess i will hide my child in the shame closet until they're 50"

@kat i wonder if this might be related to the weird focus on support groups for people who are parents of autistic people instead of for the autistic people themselves (a weird focus which is encouraged by groups like well known hate group autism speaks)
