who is will smith and why do people keep mentioning the name

@Austin_Dern i mean i can't really fault someone for wanting to slap someone being a jerk--towards the slapper's own loved ones at that

@Felthry Yeah; I absolutely get Smith's feelings here. I'm surprised it would come to actually doing something, live and on-camera. But there may be past incidents between Smith and the presenter (Chris Rock, comedian and a less-major movie and TV star) which would make that less surprising.
Rock has been needling at Smith and his wife for years, apparently.
This was the one step too far.
@JulieSqveakaroo @Felthry I wasn't aware of that, but it does make the interaction make more sense.
explanation of who will smith is and why he's being talked about
@Felthry famous actor from the late 1980s through to the mid 2010s. he made headlines recently by charging the stage and slapping Chris Rock, famous comedian/actor, at the Academy Awards after Chris Rock made a joke at the expense of Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head - she's Will Smith's wife, and decided to shave her head in light of her alopecia.
@Felthry also I may be underestimating the range of Will Smith's fame as I don't pay attention to movies that much.
@Felthry Will Smith's a movie and TV star. Last week at the Oscars he took offense to the presenter's joke about his wife's baldness (she has alopecia) and slapped him.
This has produced a controversy about the presenter's ableist joke, whether it's ever acceptable to slap someone for being a jerk, and the Motion Picture Academy's demand that Smith (a Black man) resign from their membership, a thing they haven't requested of many (white) actors and directors who've done actually evil stuff.
