has anyone ever made headphones that change the mixing of channels as you turn your head, to make it actually feel like you're in a place without needing surround sound speakers? i feel like that would be something someone has done before

@Felthry That's been technologically done with VR headsets, but I've never seen any VR theatres utilize surround sound before.

On a very basic level, any pair of headphones with a good enough soundscape and an audio file designed with immersion in mind would do this, just without the ability to move around the space.

@xenon even without moving around the space, i'm thinking being able to turn your head and it'd change what's on the left vs right

@xenon which you'd need headphones with an additional direction sensor in them, like a compass or something

@Felthry I've never seen that kind of hardware that didn't also include VR goggles.

@xenon you'd think it'd be something someone would have made in the late 2000s or early 2010s or something, maybe even earlier
