I think it'd be a cool challenge to try and make my game use all 8 SNES background modes.
Regular gameplay will use 1 and 7 anyway, 0 and 2 could be used for fancy background effects on some levels, and I think I can put the 256-color modes (3,4) and the 2-layer high-resolution mode (5) to good uses.
The biggest obstacle is that mode 6 is not very helpful, and I don't think any game ever used it. It's high resolution, but only has a single layer, and you can scroll every tile individually.
@NovaSquirrel extra high resolution would be good for an ending screen or something

@Felthry Yeah it can be good for that, or more detailed text. The idea I have in mind is a level that's "zoomed out" but still uses the same graphics.
But the resolution is the same on 5 and 6, just that 5 gives you a second layer and 6 gives you a scrolling feature.
