mahjongposting
allowing open tanyao feels weird but I do like red 5s. really gives you a reason to try to work a 5 into your hand
I absolutely do not understand the subtleties of when you’re allowed to call on an opponent tile, though. there have been a few situations where I expected to be able to call a tile, but it didn’t give me a prompt
re: mahjongposting
@gardevoir one that we miss sometimes is that you're not allowed to call on an opponent's tile if you've previously discarded another copy of that tile, could that be it?

re: mahjongposting
@Felthry hmm! that might be it, actually, which would explain why it’s fairly rare
re: mahjongposting
@gardevoir it's an important part of play though because a big part of the game is figuring out what your opponents are going for and the possibility that someone might steal a tile you discard plays into what you discard--you don't want to be the one to give someone else a full hand
but if the relevant opponent has previously discarded, say, a 2 of coins, you know that you're safe to discard that 2 of coins in your hand
