IGBTs really suck for what they're used for

they're really slow and have really high on-state loss

they're still useful because they're better than silicon mosfets in terms of having both high blocking voltage and high current capacity

now we have SiC mosfets that can replace IGBTs in most if not all applications, but they're still much more expensive and it's still a developing technology, they only became commercially viable about five to ten years ago
