ideal ginger ale strength

we are in the minority here apparently

our favorite strength is around ale81

@Felthry I've only had Canada Dry out of this. I wonder how stronger ginger ale tastes like

@Siph the ginger ales that the mass-market soda brands make are really weak, generally. still good, but weak.

if you can find a stronger one i recommend trying it! Ale81 (which is pronounced "a late one", by the way) is our favorite, but it probably isn't sold in france so see what you can find!

@Siph the extra strong ones like reed's are a bit too much for us though. they're the sort of drink that you can't drink that much of at once because it's just too strong

@JulieSqveakaroo we haven't had that one in a long time so don't recall how strong it is

@Felthry

The first sip after opening a can will usually make me need to sneeze from the ginger. I'd say it's about 2.5 Canada Dry's strength.

@JulieSqveakaroo "need to sneeze" makes me think stronger than ale81 but it's hard to place multiplicatively because canada dry's strength feels like bascally zero to us

@JulieSqveakaroo @Felthry Since moving to Michigan I've learned that Vernor's is what correct ginger ale tastes like.

Also that Canada Dry is apparently made by setting a bottle of pop ingredients in the same room as some ginger, without opening it, for about ten minutes and then shipping it to stores.

@Austin_Dern @JulieSqveakaroo @Felthry I like Canada Dry, anything more powerful would be uncomfortable. Plus, I generally think of Ginger Ale as being the weak version, and Ginger Beer being the strong version. That said, the only Ginger Beers I've had were Jamaican Imports, so that's kinda fancy.

I have had Vernors and Shweppes and I think some others? Not the other two Felthry named though.

@Felthry we've actually never had ale81! I think we would tend towards the canada dry end, but we're down for a little spicier than that sometimes, and even reed's on rare occasions

@packbat ale81 is pretty good! It's a middle-of-the-road level of spiciness, strong enough to be the main component of the taste but not so strong as to be burning or even leave an unpleasant aftertaste
-F

@Felthry we like ginger ale very light and ginger beer very strong. we'll admit we didn't recognise the latter two brands

@patchwork we like something in the middle! ale81 (pronounced "a late one") is a good level for us, reed's extra strong is just too strong. it's probably more of a ginger beer than a ginger ale
