Reading about the gene therapy cure for beta-thalassemia and how every time it comes up in the news the price tag on it seems to have grown by 50% with the mark around $2.5 million now.

The main reason being batted around is "Well the cure should cost about the same as lifetime symptomatic treatment because that makes it a viable economic alternative while maximizing profit" and I want to just pick a random direction, start walking, and slap every economist and free market capitalist I come across.
