@socks emacs is absolutely on the level of word processors though
-F
@Felthry It is? Isn't it a text editor?
@socks emacs is notoriously overengineered
it revolves around a macro system that's ridiculously powerful, i wouldn't be surprised if someone's ported doom to it
-F
@socks yeah you don't need to use all that stuff
we don't know how simple it is to use though. we use (or at least used to use) vim, and have never used emacs
(among Linux People™ there's a big rivalry between emacs users and vim users, and to a lesser extent nano users. we don't have a side in that other than "this rivalry is pointless", but it might make it hard to find good comparative information)
-F
@socks we haven't used linux in quite a long time, so mostly we just use notepad++ for text editing, eprsonally
-F
@Felthry Yeah I am aware. I use Vim a lot because having separate modes for inserting and for editing is very comfy for me, and because there's tons of plugins out there for any language I might want to write code in. But like, that doesn't mean I'm automatically going to think it's "better" than others or whatever
