it makes sense in context

someone thought Antiochus was dead and used that as an excuse to try to oust a religious authority that Antiochus had instated and who was rumored to be corrupt (though it's hard to say whether he actually was, given this all happened over 2000 years ago; this is about the Maccabean revolt)

so when Antiochus heard about this and responded, it was relevant to say that they were wrong about him being dead
