I really want to explore the Sega Genesis library more. I love that whole era of games but I've mostly only been familiar with the SNES side of things.

I'd like to play Monster World IV sometime when I set aside time for it. I've listened to the soundtrack a lot and the aesthetic seems nice.

Through doing retro console game dev stuff I've been occasionally exposed to people who are still holding strongly onto 90s console war stuff, and that's significantly less interesting than exploring all the cool games you missed out on as a kid

@NovaSquirrel

MW4 is a great game, well worth playing. As for other games to check out, there were a ton of platformers trying to ride on Sonic's mascot coat-tails; even when they don't work well, they're usually at least interesting.

@bj @NovaSquirrel Ristar was pretty cool too. That came before Sonic, I think.

@Felthry @NovaSquirrel Yes and no. Ristar was based on a character they were sketching ideas for before they came up with Sonic, but his game came out after Sonic 3. It's a great game, too.

@Felthry @NovaSquirrel

Ones I'd recommend are Pulseman (made by Game Freak in their pre-Pokémon days, and the art style definitely bears that out), Rocket Knight Adventures, and Socket (which is not a great game but I think it's sort of charming and it has good music).

@bj @Felthry I'll definitely give those a try! It's helpful to have a few suggestions instead of just looking at the whole library and trying to pick from that.

I really liked McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure and Crusader of Centy, and those are the Genesis games I've actually beaten. I have played some Ristar but not a ton. I should revisit it.

@NovaSquirrel @bj Our main knowledge of genesis games basically starts and ends with the Phantasy Star series, which I don't think is really your thing, so I'm afraid we can't really help any further

@VennVoltage @Felthry @NovaSquirrel Yeah, that’s a good one. I’m fond of the Olein Cavern theme too.
