DF is fun for a lot of reasons but the way your problems can swing from "dug into an underground lake from the bottom, 5 floors of mines are flooded, 6 dead 12 missing" to "one of the hunting dogs got stung by a bug" is very funny

NO:
RUNNING
SPLASHING
KOBOLDS
HORSEPLAY
IN THE POOL AT ANY TIME

I do like that not wanting elves to do eco terrorism to you for cutting down too many trees in this means you end up doing the dwarfy thing of making household items out of rock and weird alloys

what's billon? an alloy of copper and silver too soft to make weapons or structures out of, so ideal for mugs right

this run has been weirdly quiet with raids so far, so I've got a squad of guys suited up in iron armour and pretty well trained, a well kitted out hospital, etc, that I haven't to use to do much but chase kobolds off. unlike the previous game where half my dwarves died in month 14 when a necromancer sieged the place.
gonna build up a bit more, get a second squad kitted out and then dig down and down until I find the caverns.

it's a shame coins don't seem to be more valuable than the bars you make them out of though, might still make a bunch as a flex

building a bridge and a 10 floor deep pit with iron spikes at the bottom of it for my main entrance

jeez, my guard captain hit a croc with his axe and took it's head off on the first swing

also, elk birds are fucked up, I do not like them at all

skills really make or break combat in this. armour is just about staying alive long enough to git gud, weapons are about bypassing armour of anyone who's gotten gud
because when you hit legendary in a couple of combat skill you can do fights against less armoured things like this

the cool thing about dorf fort combat is that every hit gets the sniper elite slow mo organ rupture treatment, but each part actually does something and affects a creature's stats

@Nerts time to build a dwarven guillotine

the difference being that, instead of using valuable metal to kill nobility or trying to engineer the known hazard of underground magma, they set up a super-impressive drawbridge for the noble to "inspect"
