I'm going to have to recap a 27 inch trinitron and I'm not exactly looking forward to it because I hate working with high voltage equipment like televisions but If I manage to repair it it'll be worth it.
@oceanotter oh that's an amazing find though
if you make sure you discharge the picture tube you should be fine, that's the only thing that carries a dangerous amount of charge (you might get a zap off of some power supply capacitors but nothing dangerous, just startling)

@Felthry there's just a little focus issue on the TV. I haven't had the chance to get into the service menu yet so it might not even need it but I was planning to repaint the shell anyway and freshen it up
@Felthry so I might as well do the caps if I have it apart.
@oceanotter yeah generally a good idea to recap it while you have it open. those caps don't cost much and it's far more effort to open the thing back up when it starts to really fail than it is to just replace them while it's open anyway
