pokemon moon

was having a rough one and found my 3ds, so i booted it up and was like "hey, pokemon moon! I haven't played a lot of that and was talking about it lately, i should check it out"

and wow, i kind of thought maybe i was looking back on it with rose colored glasses, but this game feels and looks amazing. I kind of get why people hated sword and shield so much, now. This one is overflowing with charm.

pokemon moon

@heatherhorns I had this very same reaction when playing ultra moon recently. I'd played swoosh and adored it... But I hadn't played any Pokémon games before it since like... Heart gold I think??

It rocked though. Like, a hell of a lot. Swoosh really does feel like a downgrade now :<

pokemon moon

@Nine Yeah! I was JUST thinking that! I expected to like Moon more, but at least thought it'd be like "well it's a trade off. I get this, but of course, I don't have that anymore"

And...no, actually. I don't miss the open world, even. This is just better, and this might be a little harsh on the new games, but you can kind of feel a sense of love in this game, you know? It's like how I was with Arceus, like "wait, pokemon games aren't a thing to begrudgingly tolerate?? woah"

pokemon moon

@heatherhorns oh my god yeah Arceus was SO MUCH fun, and shockingly good! Story, graphics, the world, it all felt like it had so much depth and love put into it. Like the Devs were actually enjoying working on it.

pokemon moon

@Nine Yeah! Arceus was a fantastic surprise, but Moon was a reminder that it shouldn't be surprising to have a pokemon game that has heart and fun and depth

I've been playing moon for like 20 minutes and i'm saying all this. it's just delightful and it's starting to come back to me, idk. surprised i only got my team up to around 30

Arceus might be my fave mainline-ish game, but honestly, playing a good mainline game makes that comparison feel more apples n oranges

re: pokemon moon

@heatherhorns @Nine have you ever played pokemon colosseum and xd? those also definitely have heart and fun to them, i highly recommend checking them out too

re: pokemon moon

@Felthry @heatherhorns I have not, I would but ... I'd have to emulate them and part of the draw of the og colosseum game was the ability to plug your GB cart into it. I feel like I'd be missing half of the game without that (also N64 emulation is so jank :< )

re: pokemon moon

@Nine @heatherhorns you're confusing colosseum with stadium, colosseum is gamecube and has its own story independent of the gba games you could connect to it

re: pokemon moon

@Felthry @heatherhorns ohh! Yep you're right on the money there, I am, lol. Okay those are easier by far too emulate lol. I might check them out at some point!
