@terrana Most homes do, outside north america. Inside north america, you usually get either two phases of a three-phase supply (most apartments), or you get split-phase

@terrana (split phase, if you're not aware, being two 120 V supplies 180° out of phase, so that the L1 to L2 voltage is 240 V. We use 240 V for a couple large appliances like electric ovens and clothes dryers)
