@Caudlewag it's less about that and more about that filtering things on this platform isn't done via an algorithm so tagging things manually is required to make filters work
@oceanotter I'm not realy talking about the tag system so much as how many people I know have gotten DM's from mods for...fairly tame images?
I got the message "Those [pics] that involve touching another person or in which the focus is the subject's emotional response to it should probably have a CW"
For this image?

I just feel like that sort of energy isn't helping Meow Dot Social's growth is all.
@oceanotter Like that is SO BROAD it's literally most furry images.
@oceanotter I say that because I like this place, but if they want broader furry adoption on mastodon, the main place furries first land should be a little less...pearl clutch-y? I don't know you know the mods, I'd talk to them about that.
Like IS this a site for kids or what?
@Caudlewag @oceanotter It's less about being for kids, and more about the masto culture of being considerate of others, the CW system lets people chose to check stuff if they're comfortable with it or not, to not have a kinky or lewd pic pop up while browsing in public, or saving other people's mental health. Believe it or not but meow is actually somewhat lenient on CWs compared to some other furry servers, and at our size we mostly act on stuff users report feeling it should have a CW
@Caudlewag @oceanotter I can get it may drive some people off, but, on meow we aren't trying to be "the" place all furries flock to, and we prefer to give people the choice to open or not something, by default.
People can have it auto open, if they are annoyed at the click through, but, well, we can't please everyone and we try to keep the comfy vibe that CW allow to browse in public 'cause it feels right to us I guess, and has been the vibe on the network since pretty much its early days
@Caudlewag @Nomaxice @oceanotter I think people like that might also be trying to use this network as something it isn't and isn't trying to be? like, the point of this place is to be comfy. we're not trying to be Big and Endless-Growth-Venture-Capitalism-Nonsense, it's just to be a place people can exist and talk to each other and not have to worry about Algorithms and Clout and whatever the buzzword of the week is

@Caudlewag @Nomaxice @oceanotter like the main point of frission we've noticed with twitter people joining is them trying to Be Noticed and Get Numbers, when... I dunno, most people here, or at least on this corner of here, are here to hang out and not worry about that sort of stuff
it's a sort of culture shock thing, i guess
