I just preemptively defederated from threads.net, which looks likely to be Facebook's first attempt to embrace, extend, and extinguish the Fediverse like they did RSS.
It would be nice to be able to follow some people I know who are just not leaving the corporate social media sites but I do not trust Facebook to moderate worth a shit.
Good call. I wouldn't trust Facebook even if they didn't have any EEE ambitions. Their data stewardship track record is worse than ransomware.
And that's not even getting to the fact that the kind of community I vibe with doesn't mesh well with the kind of community that FB has. I've *seen* what my dad posts on there, and I've had to stage an intervention more than once.

Facebook literally radicalized my dad into sharing the "litter box" hoax too. That was one of the interventions.
