@Moot a printing error in the Japanese translation of the first version of the D&D monster manual had the information for kobolds printed with a picture of dogfolk, so there's a whole tradition of canine kobolds in Japanese media

@Felthry @Moot Afaik in (english) 1st and 2nd edition, kobolds were not much described or illustrated. But there were some allusions to dogs.
They got their now-iconic reptilian look in 3rd
