ZDoom development antipathy

You know, it fills me with bitterness whenever I think about how ZDoom is now considered the de-facto source port purely on the merit of a mod that was made by a Bolsonaro-loving fascist and a transphobe using recycled semi-functional code and stolen assets.

The head developers could have easily averted this fate, but they, especially Graf Zahl, are narcissistic psychopaths obsessed with maintaining control over the development cycle of the source port. This came complete with the double speak of modulating between wanting ZDoom to be faithful to vanilla Doom functionality, and crowbarring in poorly-thought out features just to stay ahead of the competition.

In a way, the development of ZDoom mirrors the development history of Brutal Doom, maintained by absolutely shitty people, without a clear vision for development feature sets, and gaining unwarranted and unearned popularity via unscrupulous means.

What stings the most is that Graf would do nothing about Brutal Doom despite the author Marcos Abenante being such an insufferable shitbird that half of the zdoom modders went out of their way to break Brutal Doom compatibility, and yet he would single out and target anotak for creating Lilith.pk3, a unique mod that exploits the source port glitches at the time for interesting effect, even going so far as going out of his way to break compatibility with Lilith.pk3.

The day the ZDoom team stages a mutiny and flushes the two turds Graf Zahl and Eruanna from the development team, is the day ZDoom development can once again be by the people, for the people.
