I'm a weirder.earth mod, and I was part of the decision to defederate with elekk, monads, and myasstodon. this is an open message to weirder.earth users who are wondering what the heck is going on.
this decision was not made lightly. but if you're somewhat new to the fedi, or just have not been in the loop for whatever reason, I'm sure it does seem to have come out of nowhere. here's some backstory (spoiler: I will not name specific offenders).

@twistylittlepassages dang, it sucks that elekk is on that list too. I always had the impression that it was a very well moderated space.

@grainloom I had friends on there. I silenced their instance a while back because of moderation that is inconsistent at best and outright hostile at worst. The moderators have a tendency to point fingers at other instances when they are alerted to bad behavior on their own instance, often changing the narrative to make it sound like they are the victim in any situation. (See: DARVO, thread pinned on my profile.) @twistylittlepassages

@grainloom One of the moderators of that instance is having a very public meltdown right now that is quite literally a textbook example of DARVO. As I've said before: it is pretty insidious because if you are not familiar with it, it is pretty easy to believe that the person who is abusive is actually the victim, per what they are saying.

@hafnia @twistylittlepassages My impressions of elekk are mostly from my earlier fedi years, when it was just a fun mostly gaming instance moderated by Noelle, who's been pretty cool AFAIK, so things may have changed a lot since then. PV certainly wasn't as big back then, so maybe the issues were always there, but didn't materialize so visibly yet.
I definitely agree that fedi should be made safer for Black folks. If a lot of them said there was an issue with elekk, there probably was. It just sucks that it's so hard to see the full picture in issues like this.

@hafnia @grainloom @twistylittlepassages Noelle threw my friend SoniEx under the bus to protect these abusers. If she was okay before, she certainly let others corrupt her judgement.
