like honestly the internet's getting older and i feel like it's worth really documenting how internet atheism gave way to the alt-right.

but long story short, it's an acceptable target for treating people like they're lesser. it used to be both safe and a shock-thrill.
okay maybe not actually shocking but at least edgy in a south park way.

it was rebelling without rebelling, and a way you could call people lesser without choosing a target that looks overtly hateful.

a lot of internet atheists developed the tactics used by the alt-right.

religion is such a dependably badly-argued topic that it really became about really more about humiliating people in a safe way - by not doing it to folks who care enough to react. Internet Atheists (and i use it as a term, here) liked to make it look as simple as picking an embarrassing bible verse.

if you know about shitheads like sargon of akkad, this is where those tactics were bred. you didn't need to try.

i feel like it's really important to remember this era of internet history - I mean, yeah, those jackasses are still out there, but this is how it formed.

it needs to be pointed out that the alt-right has largely taken the place of religion in this arena. it's easy to "argue" with them. they not only don't care, they want any attention to spread snappy little catchphrases. they don't define winning the same way you do.

the next monsters will be fighting the alt-right.

the spawning of fascism, alt-right, atheism

I think 'easy answers' is the poison, here.
Saying any type of religion is bad is an easy answer. That's a complicated topic. The line of spirituality and faith gets murky when discussing matters we can barely speculate on.

Saying fascism is bad is an easy answer - that's why fascists say it, too. The trouble is identifying good praxis. The idea of "punch every nazi" isn't *easy*, it's *simple.* It's easier to say than to believe, I find.

re: the spawning of fascism, alt-right, atheism

@heatherhorns Yep, these ideas aren't simply granted, there's reasoning that backs it up, and also is important to study on.

For example Christianity is bad because its moral precepts directly orders its followers to cause undue harm to people who fall outside of it, and because the institution that formed around it are founded on oppressive beliefs.

Fascism is bad because it is inherently divisive, promotes eugenics, poisons the well of knowledge, and curtails the free will of its people, with the end result of it being genocide.

Don't stop at the third word, keep going and unpack it all.
